CO2 Footprint

A CO2 footprint provides immediate insight into the share of these and other functions in the total CO2 emissions and offers guidelines for possible improvements.

To keep our world healthy, fertile and liveable, Den Ouden Groep has set itself the goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 4% per year up to and including 2026. We achieve this by, among other things:

Processing green residual flows into high-quality products such as biomass and soil improvers;
Taking on sustainable projects, such as the cradle-to-cradle 'Rotonde van Morgen' in Venlo;
Making the purchasing policy more sustainable, such as electric or hybrid alternatives for the equipment.
Making our buildings more sustainable, such as installing solar panels, new more efficient heating systems and insulation for our head office and the weighbridge buildings.
Weekly monitoring of the fuel consumption of the vehicle and machinery;
Participation in regional and national CO2 reduction initiatives, such as the Helmonds Energie Community (HEC): and Netherlands CO2 Neutral.
Den Ouden Groep is certified at the highest level of the CO2 performance ladder. This means that we not only continuously improve within the company in the field of CO2 reduction, but also exert influence outside our own chain.

Den Ouden Groep communicates structurally internally and externally about its own CO2 footprint and reduction targets. These can also be found on the SKAO website.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Den Ouden Groep is engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on a daily basis. We are committed to people and the environment. Our employees are our greatest asset and our environment our raison d'être. Through our Biobased products and cradle to cradle projects we prevent an impoverishment of the breeding ground and depletion of energy sources. We take the initiative for development projects that facilitate the sector in CO₂ reduction. After all, we all bear the responsibility of handing over a vibrant earth to the next generation.

A selection from our CSR policy

We process green residual flows into sustainable and high-quality products such as biomass and soil improvers.

We use part of the green residual flows for other products. For example, pruning waste from the yew can be used as basic ingredient for cancer treatment.

All electricity that we use ourselves is produced from Dutch biomass. Our office spaces are supplied with 98% of this green energy.

We use energy and raw materials sparingly. We aim for a five-year CO2 reduction of 4%. For this we are certified for step 5 of the CO2 performance ladder.

Our machines are fuel efficient and we also use Adblue. This substance converts the harmful NOx in the exhaust gases of our diesel vehicles into harmless nitrogen and water vapour. When purchasing new equipment, we look at the electric or hybrid options.

We remediate polluted terrestrial and aquatic soils dozens of times a year. In this way we ensure that the environment is safe again for the health of humans and animals.

Every year we invest 3% in Social Return on Investment (SROI). We offer people with a distance to the labor market a place in our organization. For this we have reached the 3rd rung of Performance Ladder for Social Business (PSO) .

The sick leave within Den Ouden Groep is 1.87%. According to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), absenteeism in the construction sector averages 3.6%. If an employee is not in the right place or threatens to fall under the Sickness Benefits Act, we try to find a suitable position within our company
