Refurbishment of Kanjel and Gelei in Maastricht
A nice assignment involving the redesign of a total of about 5.5 km of the Kanjel and Gelei waterways.
The Kanjel and de Gelei are two streams that flow through Buitengebied Geul & Maas. These streams are important for keeping the ponds of the estates up to standard and for the well-being of the plants and animals in the area.

A lot of silt has accumulated at the bottom of streams and ponds. This makes the water flow through the streams less well.
During heavy rainfall the streams and ponds can overflow. Therefore, the Limburg Water Board, in cooperation with the municipalities of Maastricht and Meerssen, commissioned the removal of silt, the construction of new water buffers and the rerouting of part of the streams. This way, we distribute the water better between the streams and ponds and the water becomes cleaner.
