The robustness of crops is determined by the amount of calcium in the plant. Calcium, bound in the cell walls, is essential for long-lasting harvests. In the autumn, various crops experience limited calcium uptake. Dosing extra calcium can then offer a solution. However, absorption remains limited when there is high potassium in the plant. Carrying out plant sap analyzes provides insight into the current plant status.
Add calcium and bind
To improve the absorption of the calcium present and to bind calcium in cell walls, a spray with ProAct can be carried out. ProAct contains Harpine αβ, a natural remedy to increase plant sugars, firmness and shelf life. This has been investigated in no fewer than 42 studies into the increase in bound calcium between different consumption crops. This resulted in a success rate of 81%. The average increase in Calcium is 23%. (see image)

Increase in bound calcium compared to control group
Research into shelf life in raspberries shows significantly less loss. ProAct was applied during flowering, fruit development and before harvest. The result is higher sugar values, stronger fruits and reduced losses after harvest. Shelf life is also greatly increased, as can be seen in the comparison below:
Untreated |
ProAct treatment |
Result after 2 weeks of storage at 10°c: 38% loss. |
Result after 2 weeks of storage at 10°c: 14% loss. |
The dosage of ProAct is 150 grams/ha, and has three applications per cultivation cycle. With continuous harvests, a repeat is applied every two weeks. In case of limited calcium absorption, 1.5 kg/ha Natural Green and 5 liters/ha Fulvic 25 can be added for better mobilization and absorption of, among other things, calcium.
