“There is at least one soil expert who is very pleased with Agriculture Minister Carola Schouten's plea to phase out fertilizer use. His name is Pius Floris. He has been proclaiming for years that fertilizer is downright bad for soil and plants. “A different time is coming now. Hopefully this minister will make it and she can continue.”
Growers do it differently? How else then? “They see that they cannot continue on the path they have chosen. That fertilizer weakens the plant and destroys the soil. That preventive combat is a strange approach, just as strange as taking medication in case you get sick. Preventive control is expensive, weakens the plants and inhibits growth. You must ensure that pathogens do not stand a chance. That is an ongoing battle. Some strive for balance in the soil, but that doesn't really exist. There is imbalance otherwise there is no response or response in nature. It is possible to counterbalance pathogens with different organisms.”
