Building a central pillar with a trumpet-shaped head. You can imagine that this presents quite a few challenges in terms of formwork, reinforcement and concrete pouring. Challenges that the Civil Concrete Construction specialists within Den Ouden Infra are more than happy to take on. We are constructing a bridge on the road to the ferry between Alphen and Lith.
And that's not just any bridge. The architecturally special design of the bridge construction makes it a special project. The central pillar in particular, with its trumpet shape, can rightly be called a work of art. The bridge consists of two fields and has a total span of 80 meters. We are widening the bridge deck at the center pier, creating a vantage point for cyclists and pedestrians on either side.
We have now completed the two abutments. The middle pillar is currently under construction and we are building it in parts. Once the center pier is ready, we will create the bridge deck. We expect to complete the project by mid-March 2024.
Location with a challenge
The bridge is the final part of the sand extraction and nature development project Over de Maas. This project has created a pond that is connected to the Maas via a secondary channel at Lith. The new bridge will bridge this channel. A location with a challenge, because working in a tidal area means that the working area can be flooded.
