The tearing down of an existing car bridge, the temporary redirecting of a cyceling bridge and building a new car/cyceling bridge above the canal in Deurne. And... the construction of a fictional bridge? after the designing phase in construction team with the municipality Peel and Maal, is the combanation Den Ouden Infra and Ploegam the reconstruction of de Heldensedijk / Meijelseweg now well advanced. A quick update
Lets rewind to the beginning of the implementation phase. After we tore down we bridge over the canal of Deurne, we applied retaining walls ( steel piling). these retaining walls keep the water an ground apart from eachother because if we don't we won't keep our socks dry.
The concrete ground is placed on the bridge by now. On which we build walls, the so called abutments. We will provide these with masonry, so that we retain the appearence of the old bridge in the new situation. After all they did choose a stone with a older appearence.
Precast concrete beams will be placed on top of the abutments. When these are placed the bridge will finally start to come together. We provide the beams with a layer of concrete and then we place the handrails and guide the rail. A special feature is the design of the handrails, Which has been coordinated as much as possible with the railing of the old bridge, but has nevertheless been updated to today's design regulations.
Finally we will provide the bridge with a layer of asphalt . we will open the bridge to the traffic in March of 2024
Parallel to the Canal of Deurne is the Helenavaart Canal, originally there were two bridges, but in the past the Helenavaart filled in at the location of the road and the bridge over the helenavaart was torn down. The request came from people around the area to bring back the situation of the two bridges, however this did not really fit in the scope of the project. Together with the municipality Peel en Maas we found an alternative: a fictional bridge. What will that look like? On two sides of the bridge we will build a concrete edge with masonry and a rail this way it wil look like the driver is driver over two different bridges.
